Honey is a delicious, 100% natural sweet golden liquid produced by honeybees from nectar gathered from flowers. Sunshine helps flowers turn moisture from the soil into nectar, which honeybees collect as they pollinate the flowers.

January Shop Spotlight: Sedgemoor Honey
This month we’re shining the spotlight on Sedgemoor Honey, a truly local gem we’re proud to stock in our farmshop. Produced just a stone’s throw away from us here at Sheppy’s Cider, Sedgemoor Honey is harvested from hives nestled in the heart of the Somerset countryside — it doesn’t get much more local than that.
Sedgemoor Honey is a family-run business with a real passion for beekeeping, sustainability, and quality. Their bees forage across nearby meadows, orchards, and hedgerows, creating honey that’s rich in flavour and reflects the landscape right on our doorstep. Every jar is carefully extracted and bottled with minimal processing, ensuring the natural goodness is kept just as nature intended.
Why choose local honey?
Eating local honey isn’t just delicious — it comes with some great benefits too:
It may help support seasonal allergy relief by introducing small amounts of local pollen.
Naturally rich in antioxidants and antibacterial properties.
A gentle energy boost and a natural alternative to refined sugar.
Supports local bees, biodiversity, and small producers.
By choosing Sedgemoor Honey, you’re supporting local beekeepers, local wildlife, and local food — all while enjoying a beautifully smooth, flavoursome honey that pairs perfectly with cheese, toast, or even a drizzle over yogurt.
Pop into the shop and give it a try — local never tasted so good when you get 10% off in January
Chris Harries started beekeeping back in the mid 1970’s. Little could he have then known that his fascination with 2 hives in the garden, would develop into the successful bee farm of today.
Still largely single-handed, Chris now runs 300 colonies of bees, divided between 20 apiaries. They forage for nectar in the fields and hedgerows of Somerset, including the Quantock and Blackdown hills, Sedgemoor and south Somerset.
During the summer months many hives are moved to take full advantage of the changing nectar flows, including the purple heather of Exmoor, with its distinctive aroma and flavour.
