"Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff and a delicious range. Stay away from the cheese counter unless you are ready to carry out your body weight in cheese."

Cheesemonger’s Choice – January Enjoy 10% off in the Farm Shop all month

We’re starting the new year with a true British classic: Baron Bigod, our Cheesemonger’s Choice for January, get 10% off instore. This luxurious, raw-milk brie–style cheese is everything we love at this time of year—rich, buttery, and indulgently creamy, with a silky breakdown beneath its delicate rind. Expect earthy mushroom notes, a gentle lactic freshness, and a long, mellow finish that makes every bite feel like a quiet celebration.

Why We Chose It: January calls for comfort, and Baron Bigod delivers it beautifully. Its depth of flavour, exceptional craftsmanship, and seasonal peak make it the perfect cheese to brighten cold winter days. Whether baked, spread on warm baguette, or served simply on a cheeseboard, it’s a cheese that demands attention.

About the Producer: Baron Bigod is handmade by Fen Farm Dairy in Suffolk, where the Crickmore family craft cheese from the milk of their own Montbéliarde cows. The milk is used warm, fresh from the morning milking, giving the cheese its trademark silkiness and complexity. Fen Farm is celebrated for its commitment to animal welfare, sustainable farming, and small-batch artisanal production—values that shine through in every wheel.

Perfect Pairing: Sheppy’s Perry Cider
To complement January’s star cheese, we’re pairing it with Sheppy’s Perry Cider. Light, aromatic, and gently sweet with pear blossom notes, it cuts through the richness of Baron Bigod without overpowering it. The pairing balances creaminess with fresh orchard fruit, making each mouthful feel beautifully rounded.

Heritage

At Sheppy's it is important for us to know about our cheesemakers, who they are, their history, their story and their processes so there is a direct connection from them to you.

At our core is a selection of some of the most inspiring and exciting raw milk and pasteurised cheeses currently being made. We supply cheese made from cow, goat and sheep milk, traditional animal rennet and many vegetarian varieties. We have a range of blues, washed rinds, fresh yoghurty cheeses, young curds, soft unctuous cheeses and traditional hearty regional cheeses.

Values aligned

Cider comes from the land, the flavour comes from the earth and the orchard where the fruit is grown. Cheese is no different, its complexity is created by the milk, the animals and the pastures themselves. Both products rely on the terrain, soil and climate of a region for their products to flourish.

We work with cheesemakers that value the quality of what they produce and whose practices sustain our environment and cultural heritage. They produce food with a story - a provenance and place.

We've been at it a while

At Sheppy's we have built fantastic relationships with many regional and European producers. Here you can see a receipt from Jon Sheppy dated 1859 for the sale of butter and cream to a local cheese producer
